Sony Financial Group Slashes Full-Year Earnings Outlook on Investment Losses

Sony Financial Group Inc. ( (JP:8729) ) has provided an update.

Sony Financial Group has sharply downgraded its full-year consolidated earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, under Japanese GAAP, cutting expected ordinary profit from ¥122 billion to ¥79 billion and profit attributable to owners of the parent from ¥82 billion to ¥50 billion. The revision reflects anticipated higher losses on sales of securities at Sony Life, driven by additional bond disposals undertaken to rebalance its portfolio under an asset-liability management approach, which will also reduce basic earnings per share and signals increased earnings volatility in its life insurance investment operations.

Under IFRS Accounting Standards, Sony Financial Group kept operating revenue guidance unchanged at ¥1 trillion but slashed its forecast for income before income taxes from ¥60 billion to ¥1 billion and now expects a small loss attributable to owners of the parent instead of ¥41 billion in profit. While adjusted net income is only modestly reduced, from ¥98 billion to ¥94 billion, underscoring management’s view of stable underlying earning power, the large divergence between statutory and adjusted metrics highlights substantial temporary investment-related losses and may heighten investor focus on the group’s risk management and disclosure practices.
