The latest announcement is out from Smartoptics Group AS ( (DE:3YL) ).
Smartoptics has partnered with South African telecoms hardware specialist HardwareCo to supply Teraco, Africa’s largest vendor-neutral data centre platform, with redundant 100G DWDM links connecting its CT1 and CT2 facilities in Cape Town. The compact, license-free Smartoptics solution expands Teraco’s backbone capacity to meet surging 100G demand on one of South Africa’s fastest-growing bandwidth routes, while lowering space, power and operational complexity and allowing Teraco to manage the system in-house. By demonstrating how open, standards-based DWDM can make high-capacity transport more accessible and cost-effective, particularly in developing regions, the deployment strengthens Teraco’s role as a critical hub for cloud, content, connectivity and financial ecosystems in Sub-Saharan Africa and underscores Smartoptics’ positioning as a key enabler of scalable optical infrastructure across the continent.
