SM Energy ( (SM) ) has issued an update.

On March 18, 2026, SM Energy reported early results from its cash tender offer for 8.375% Senior Notes due 2028, originally issued by Civitas Resources and assumed following their merger. By the March 17 early tender deadline, investors had tendered about $783.6 million, or 58.04%, of the $1.35 billion outstanding notes.

In response, the company raised the maximum purchase size of the offer from $750 million to $1 billion and extended the early tender premium to all notes tendered through the April 1, 2026 expiration. The early-settlement for notes tendered by March 17 was set for March 19, 2026, underscoring SM Energy’s push to actively manage and reduce its higher-coupon debt load following the Civitas transaction.

Spark’s Take on SM Stock

According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, SM is a Outperform.

The score is driven by strong valuation (very low P/E with a solid dividend) and constructive technical momentum, supported by earnings-call emphasis on deleveraging, synergies, and a shareholder-return framework. The main constraint is financial volatility—recent revenue softening, pressured operating profitability in 2025, and uneven free cash flow typical of a cyclical, capital-intensive E&P business.
