An announcement from SM Energy ( (SM) ) is now available.

On April 30, 2026, SM Energy closed the previously announced sale of roughly 61,000 net acres of producing and non‑producing assets in its southern Maverick Basin position in Webb County, Texas, for a cash purchase price of $950 million, generating about $900 million in net proceeds after adjustments and costs. The transaction, which does not qualify as discontinued operations, advances SM’s push toward a divestiture target above $1.0 billion and marks a reshaping of its South Texas footprint.

The company said it will use the proceeds to redeem at par the full $819 million of its 6.75% and 5.0% Senior Notes maturing in 2026, trimming high‑yield debt that was partly assumed in the January 30, 2026 merger with Civitas Resources Inc. SM also completed its semi‑annual borrowing base redetermination after the sale, with its $5.0 billion borrowing base and $2.5 billion of lender commitments reaffirmed, underscoring continued liquidity and balance‑sheet strength for creditors and equity holders.

The most recent analyst rating on (SM) stock is a Hold with a $30.00 price target. To see the full list of analyst forecasts on SM Energy stock, see the SM Stock Forecast page.

Spark’s Take on SM Stock

According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, SM is a Outperform.

The score is driven primarily by an attractive valuation (very low P/E with a meaningful dividend) and constructive technical momentum (price above major moving averages with positive MACD). Financial performance is solid but capped by cyclicality and free-cash-flow volatility, while the latest earnings call supports the outlook with disciplined 2026 spending and deleveraging plans, tempered by near-term cadence and integration/commodity-price sensitivity.
