Sanrio Suspends Managing Director Over Alleged Improper Compensation

Sanrio Company, Ltd. has disclosed that an internal report alleged a managing director received improper additional compensation from a group subsidiary under that director’s oversight, on top of remuneration set by the company’s Nomination and Remuneration Advisory Committee. An internal probe suggests the director received several hundred million yen over several years, leading the company to suspend the executive from all duties while the investigation continues.

The company has engaged an independent professional organization with no conflicts of interest to conduct a more detailed fact-finding review and pledged to disclose further developments as they emerge. Sanrio also plans to implement group-wide measures to prevent a recurrence, signalling a drive to reinforce governance and restore trust after apologizing to shareholders, investors, business partners, and other stakeholders for the incident.
