PowerX, Inc. ( (JP:485A) ) just unveiled an announcement.

Ocean Power Grid, a wholly owned subsidiary of PowerX, has approved a third-party allotment of new shares to fund the full-scale launch of its offshore power transmission business, including its first Battery Tanker vessel project. The company will use the capital to advance technical verification, secure development and operating funds, and deepen capital and business alliances with new partners, bolstering its technical, operational, and financial base.

The subsidiary plans to expand a distributed energy network that ships surplus renewable electricity to remote islands, supports power sharing between island regions, and stabilizes supply through battery storage and microgrids. By also deploying container data centers known as “Mega Power DC” to convert surplus renewable power into digital value, Ocean Power Grid is positioning itself at the intersection of energy and digital infrastructure, with potential implications for Japan’s decarbonization and energy independence strategy.
