PowerX, Inc. and Internet Initiative Japan Inc. have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly explore solutions that combine battery energy storage systems with containerized data centers. The collaboration focuses on building power and digital infrastructure to support AI-related computing demand by integrating flexible storage, computing platforms, and distributed networks.
The companies plan to co-develop container data centers that use stored electricity to power server equipment and potentially sell surplus energy in response to fluctuating market prices. By advancing their so-called Watt-Bit Integration concept, they aim to tackle challenges around power supply, construction capacity, and computing resources while improving Japan’s energy self-sufficiency and contributing to decarbonization and regional development.
