Orion Engineered Carbons S.A. is a specialty chemical company that produces carbon black, used in applications such as tires, coatings, and electronics, with a strong presence across three continents and a focus on sustainable innovations.

Orion Engineered Carbons reported its financial results for the full year ending December 31, 2024, revealing a challenging year with a decrease in net sales and net income compared to the previous year. Despite headwinds, the company managed to maintain a solid Adjusted EBITDA and highlighted significant growth in its Specialty Carbon Black segment.

The company’s financial performance saw a decrease in net sales to $1,877.5 million, down by $16.4 million from the previous year. Net income also fell significantly by $59.3 million to $44.2 million, with Adjusted EBITDA dropping $30.1 million to $302.2 million. These declines were partly due to lower demand in the Rubber Carbon Black segment and unfavorable foreign currency impacts. However, Orion’s Specialty segment showed resilience, with an 11% volume growth year over year, driven by demand recovery across all regions.

Strategically, Orion strengthened its position in circularity and announced new commercial sales for 2025. The company also repurchased approximately 2% of its shares, worth $20 million, indicating confidence in its long-term prospects. Despite a fraud incident resulting in significant financial loss, Orion remains committed to enhancing free cash flow and optimizing capital allocation.

Looking ahead, Orion anticipates growth in 2025, supported by new Rubber supply agreements and improved Specialty production lines. The company aims to leverage its available capacity and maintain disciplined capital expenditure to enhance earnings without needing significant growth capital.
