Meridian Energy Limited has announced the commencement of its first solar farm in New Zealand, the $227 million Ruakākā Solar Farm. Set to begin construction in August 2025, this 130MW project will significantly enhance Northland’s energy resilience and contribute to the country’s renewable energy supply. The solar farm, equipped with 250,000 panels, will produce up to 230GWh annually, powering nearly half the homes in Northland. This initiative is part of Meridian’s broader $3 billion investment strategy through 2030, which includes several other renewable projects. The company has partnered with Ethical Power for construction and maintenance, with the first generation expected in late 2026.
