An update from Pinedale Energy ( (TSE:MCF) ) is now available.
MCF Energy has provided an update on the recommencement of testing at the Welchau-1 well in Austria, where it holds a 25% interest alongside operator ADX Energy. Testing of the Reifling Formation, the shallowest of four carbonate reservoirs at the site, had been halted in early 2025 due to legal challenges from environmental groups but was cleared to resume following a favorable court ruling in Upper Austria.
The new testing program will include acid stimulation of the Reifling Formation to assess whether moveable hydrocarbons are present and to evaluate flow characteristics near a mapped light oil accumulation. Welchau-1, drilled in the Northern Calcareous Alps hydrocarbon fairway, has already encountered a complex fractured carbonate interval with continuous hydrocarbon shows, and successful testing could enhance MCF Energy’s resource base and support its broader European gas strategy.
