Lithium Universe Limited has reported that a Life Cycle Assessment conducted by Macquarie University on its Silver Extraction PV Recycling Project shows major environmental and efficiency gains over conventional nitric acid leaching of photovoltaic waste. Using Jet Electrochemical Silver Extraction, the process directly yields high-purity 99.88% silver, avoiding downstream refining and enabling rapid extraction and recovery under mild operating conditions.
The assessment found that the new process cuts carbon emissions by about 85%, reduces nitric acid use by 83%, and lowers energy consumption by 67% compared with standard industry methods. It also trims water usage by 77% and solid waste by 88%, while delivering over three times the revenue per kilogram of recovered silver, positioning the technology as a leading circular-economy solution in PV recycling and potentially enhancing Lithium Universe’s competitive and economic profile in the sector.
