Kokusai Electric Buys Land to Expand Tonami Semiconductor Manufacturing Hub

Kokusai Electric Corporation ( (JP:6525) ) has provided an update.

Kokusai Electric has decided to acquire a 43,000-square-meter land parcel next to its Tonami Manufacturing Center in Tonami City, Toyama Prefecture, for about 1.0 billion yen. The company expects the semiconductor-related market to grow faster and larger than previously forecast, fueled by rising demand for consumer electronics, data centers, and high-performance semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

The Tonami site, which began operations in October 2024, was originally positioned to handle group-wide production growth through 2030 alongside the conversion of the Toyama Technology & Manufacturing Center into a research hub. However, anticipating stronger market expansion, Kokusai Electric plans to leverage the newly acquired land to support future production and R&D initiatives by integrating it with existing supply chain and logistics capabilities, with the land transfer expected to complete around September 2026 and no immediate impact projected on current-year financial results.
