Hitachi Zosen Corporation ( (JP:7004) ) has shared an announcement.

Kanadevia Corporation has agreed to transfer its all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries business, including research, development, design, and sales of its AS-LiB products, to Suzuki Motor Corporation effective July 1, 2026. The move follows years of technological advances, including space-proven performance with JAXA and initial commercialization in semiconductor equipment, but also rising competition and the need for rapid scaling and mass production.

By selling the business to Suzuki, which is expanding in electric mobility and lithium-ion batteries, Kanadevia aims to ensure faster performance improvements, stronger production capabilities, and a wider sales network for AS-LiB technology in industrial fields. Financially, the transfer is expected to generate an extraordinary gain of about JPY 7.4 billion in Kanadevia’s consolidated and non-consolidated results for the second quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, potentially strengthening its balance sheet and providing capital for other strategic priorities.

Suzuki, a major global manufacturer of automobiles, motorcycles, and related products, gains advanced solid-state battery technology that could support its EV strategy and differentiate its electrification offerings. The deal underscores intensifying competition in next-generation batteries and highlights the trend of automakers acquiring specialized technologies to accelerate commercialization and secure supply chains.

More about Hitachi Zosen Corporation

Kanadevia Corporation, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market under securities code 7004, has developed all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries since 2006. Its proprietary AS-LiB technology uses a dry manufacturing process to deliver high safety, strong environmental resistance, and stable performance across wide temperature ranges, suiting demanding applications such as outer space and high-temperature or vacuum environments.

The company’s batteries have been validated through a joint demonstration with JAXA on the International Space Station’s Kibo module, achieving the world’s first charge–discharge verification of all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries in exposed space. Kanadevia has also begun commercial deployment, including orders for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and has been working on scaling up to higher-capacity 1,000 mAh cells to support broader industrial uses.
