Idemitsu Kosan Co. is advancing its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project, moving from the feasibility study phase to front-end engineering and design at its Tokuyama Complex, with plans to start producing 250,000 kiloliters of SAF annually by FY2028. The company targets a domestic supply of 500,000 kiloliters per year by 2030, contributing to Japan’s goal of replacing 10% of its airline fuel with SAF. The SAF will be produced using various oils and fats, including waste cooking oil and materials like pongamia, to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
