Idemitsu Kosan Co. and Mitsui Chemicals have completed a feasibility study and are advancing to the front-end engineering and design phase for the consolidation of their Chiba ethylene complexes, aiming to enhance production efficiency and competitiveness in the challenging Japanese petrochemical market. The consolidation, planned for fiscal 2027, will entail the closure of Idemitsu’s facility and the unification of operations at Mitsui’s facility under the existing joint partnership. This strategic move comes as a response to increased competition and decreased domestic demand.
