Huaneng Power International plans to raise equity capital by packaging its Huaneng Qingdao Project—comprising two 350 MW thermal power cogeneration units and two circulating fluidized bed boilers in Qingdao’s Dongjiakou Port Area—into a publicly offered infrastructure real estate investment trust. The initiative aligns with national policies to activate existing assets and expand effective investment while providing the company with a new channel to optimize its capital structure.

The company has submitted application materials for the Huaneng Coal-fired Power REIT to the China Securities Regulatory Commission and the Shanghai Stock Exchange, which formally accepted them on 12 May 2026. The proposed REIT, treated as a spin-off and listing, still requires approvals from Chinese securities regulators, state-owned assets authorities, and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, meaning its launch and any related equity transfers remain contingent on multiple regulatory clearances.
