Hitachi Energy India Limited ( (IN:POWERINDIA) ) has issued an announcement.

Hitachi Energy and Adani Energy Solutions have commissioned one of the world’s largest HVDC city center infeeds in Mumbai, boosting the city’s imported power capacity by 50 percent and supplying up to 1,000 megawatts of reliable, secure, and clean electricity. The Kudus-Aarey HVDC link, enabled by Hitachi Energy’s Voltage Source Converter technology and a compact converter station with 50 kilometers of underground cables, significantly modernizes Mumbai’s grid, enhances resilience, and supports the city’s climate and decarbonization goals for more than 20 million residents.

By quadrupling the Aarey converter station’s capacity from 250 to 1,000 megawatts, the project overcomes severe urban space constraints while improving voltage stability and power flow control in one of the world’s most densely populated megacities. The new infrastructure strengthens long-term energy security, sets a global benchmark for urban HVDC transmission, and underpins Mumbai’s ability to integrate more renewable energy into its network while meeting rapidly growing electricity demand.
