Historic Settlement for Underpaid Indigenous Workers

Shine Justice Ltd. (AU:SHJ) has released an update.

Shine Justice Ltd has announced a historic $202 million settlement with the Commonwealth Government for the class action of Stolen Wages, where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers in the Northern Territory were underpaid from 1933 to 1971. The settlement, which includes legal and administrative costs, awaits Federal Court approval and will benefit the workers or their surviving relatives following a registration and outreach program. Lead applicant Minnie McDonald, represented by Shine Lawyers, initiated the action in 2021 to seek justice for the underpaid workers and their families.
