Sixty North Unity, a consortium of Indigenous communities from Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, is set to acquire Northwestel, becoming the largest Indigenous-owned telecommunications company globally. This historic deal aims to bridge the digital divide in the North, boosting access to high-speed internet, and facilitating community reinvestment in essential services. Anticipated benefits include enhanced connectivity with increased internet speeds and expanded high-speed internet availability, alongside significant capital investments like the Great Slave Lake Fibre Project.
