Furukawa Electric Co ( (JP:5801) ) has provided an update.

Furukawa Electric will waive claims totaling 8,266 million yen against its equity-method affiliate VISCAS Corporation, a power transmission line and cable manufacturer jointly owned with Fujikura, ahead of VISCAS’s planned dissolution on March 31, 2026. The move follows the earlier transfer of VISCAS’s core cable businesses to Furukawa and Fujikura and the wind-down of remaining overseas construction and receivables operations, with Furukawa stating that prior allowances for doubtful accounts mean only a minor impact on its fiscal 2026 consolidated results.

The waiver effectively closes out Furukawa’s financial exposure to VISCAS, whose net assets were already deeply negative, and reflects a cleanup of legacy affiliate structures following business transfers completed in 2016. For stakeholders, the decision underscores Furukawa’s effort to simplify its corporate portfolio and resolve uncollectible loans while containing earnings volatility linked to a financially distressed related party.

The most recent analyst rating on (JP:5801) stock is a Buy with a Yen34000.00 price target. To see the full list of analyst forecasts on Furukawa Electric Co stock, see the JP:5801 Stock Forecast page.
