Energy Focus ( (EFOI) ) has provided an announcement.
On April 14, 2026, Energy Focus, Inc. announced a joint investment with Meihodo Co., Ltd. and Euka Power Japan Co., Ltd. in an energy storage power plant in Asakura, Fukuoka, Japan, where it will hold a 35% stake and lead battery procurement and energy management. The project has secured a grid application response from Kyushu Electric Power, carries a total investment of about 500 million JPY, and is expected to reach commercial operation in the second half of 2026, opening up participation in Japan’s lucrative power regulation and balancing markets.
By tapping Japan’s balancing and capacity markets and real‑time arbitrage mechanisms, the project is designed to create multiple revenue streams while serving as the launchpad for Energy Focus’s transition into an asset‑ and data‑driven Energy‑as‑a‑Service platform. The company positions this first Japanese storage asset as the core node for building a regional energy network and virtual power plant capabilities across Japan and the broader Asia‑Pacific, potentially lifting its earnings profile and supporting a shift in how capital markets value the business.
