Ecopetrol SA ( (EC) ) has issued an update.
On May 19, 2026, Ecopetrol announced that it has met the conditions to acquire a 49% interest in the JK1 and JK2 wind projects, part of the Jemeiwaa Ka’I wind cluster in La Guajira, under its investment agreement with AES Colombia. The two projects, valued at about USD 25.5 million and totaling 259 MW with a 35-kilometer transmission line, will be developed and operated jointly through a special purpose vehicle.
Once construction is completed and operations begin, JK1 and JK2 are expected to generate around 1,100 GWh per year, covering roughly 12% of the Ecopetrol Group’s average energy demand and improving energy cost efficiency and operational reliability. The wind projects form a key element of Ecopetrol’s energy transition strategy by delivering significant decarbonization benefits, while conditions for acquiring the remaining four projects in the Jemeiwaa Ka’I cluster are still pending and will be completed as regulatory and contractual requirements are satisfied.
The most recent analyst rating on (EC) stock is a Hold with a $11.00 price target. To see the full list of analyst forecasts on Ecopetrol SA stock, see the EC Stock Forecast page.
Spark’s Take on EC Stock
According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, EC is a Neutral.
The score is driven primarily by solid but deteriorating fundamentals (negative revenue trend, margin compression, and elevated leverage), partially offset by attractive valuation (low P/E and high dividend yield). Earnings-call guidance and execution were broadly positive but tempered by meaningful oil-price and tax/regulatory risks, while technicals are modestly supportive with mixed momentum signals.
