Core & Main ( (CNM) ) just unveiled an announcement.

On March 27, 2026, Core & Main Inc. announced that, effective April 1, 2026, its board expanded and appointed former American Water Works CEO and CFO M. Susan Hardwick as a Class III director and member of the talent and compensation committee, with her term running until the 2027 annual meeting. Hardwick, who previously held senior finance roles at American Water and Vectren, brings deep regulated utility, finance, capital allocation and strategic transaction experience, and becomes the ninth independent director on the 10-member board.

As part of the same governance transition and long-term succession plan, Executive Chair and board chair Stephen LeClair retired from all positions with the company, and lead independent director James Castellano was elevated to chair of the board. The company also restructured its audit oversight, naming James Hope as chair of the audit committee and adding Robert Buck as a committee member, moves that collectively signal a shift toward stronger independent leadership and utility-sector expertise at the board level.

Spark’s Take on CNM Stock

According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, CNM is a Neutral.

CNM scores as moderately attractive: financial performance is generally solid with strong free cash flow and durable margins, and earnings-call guidance was reaffirmed with supportive municipal/nonresidential demand and an expanded buyback authorization. These positives are tempered by clearly weak technical momentum (price below major moving averages with negative MACD) and a still-levered balance sheet alongside cooling revenue growth and some margin pressure.
