The latest update is out from Chilwa Minerals Ltd ( (AU:CHW) ).
Chilwa Minerals has outlined a new program to assess the potential for ionic adsorption clay rare earth deposits across its Lake Chilwa licences in Malawi, adding to existing work on heavy mineral sands and hard rock REE targets. The company believes basal clay units beneath its mineral sands, as well as clay and sap-rock above hard rock targets, may host significant rare earth mineralisation distinct from known monazite-bearing sands.
The program will use samples from existing sonic drilling to evaluate grade distribution, mineralogical controls and leachable rare earth inventory, avoiding the cost and delay of new drilling. Management highlights that discovering an additional REE deposit type beneath current heavy mineral sands resources could deliver compelling economic benefits through shared infrastructure and integrated mine planning, potentially enhancing project viability and strategic positioning in the rare earths sector.
