Champion Iron ( (AU:CIA) ) has shared an announcement.
Champion Iron has secured acceptances from shareholders of Norwegian iron ore producer Rana Gruber representing about 90.07% of its share capital and voting rights for its voluntary cash offer at NOK 79 per share, satisfying the offer’s minimum acceptance condition. Completion remains subject to other closing conditions, but once finalized Champion plans a compulsory acquisition of the remaining Rana Gruber shares under Norwegian law, positioning the company to fully consolidate the asset and expand its high‑grade iron ore footprint in a key European market.
The transaction underlines Champion’s strategy to leverage its high‑purity, direct‑reduction‑grade iron ore capabilities and broaden its presence beyond its flagship Bloom Lake complex in Québec. Full ownership of Rana Gruber would give Champion greater scale and geographic diversification, potentially enhancing supply to global steelmakers seeking premium, lower‑contaminant iron ore products aligned with decarbonization trends and strengthening its competitive position among high‑grade iron ore suppliers.
