Bank of NT Butterfield & Son ( (NTB) ) has issued an update.
Butterfield reported first-quarter 2026 net income of $62.6 million, or $1.53 per share, and core net income of $63.2 million, or $1.55 per share, with returns on average common equity of 22.1% and net interest margin of 2.75%. Results on March 31, 2026 were slightly lower than the seasonally strong prior quarter but ahead of a year earlier, supported by higher net interest income from lower deposit costs and improved investment yields.
Non-interest income fell versus the fourth quarter due to seasonal banking revenues but rose year on year on stronger trust fees and card volumes, while core non-interest expenses declined on lower professional, technology and property costs, improving efficiency. Spark’s Take on NTB Stock
According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, NTB is a Outperform.
NTB scores well primarily on financial strength (high profitability/returns, conservative balance sheet, dependable cash generation) and attractive valuation (low P/E with a solid dividend). The earnings call reinforced strong capital returns and asset-quality positioning, while the main constraints on the score are revenue volatility and near-term banking headwinds (modest NIM pressure, deposit outflows, and residual OCI losses).
