BP ( (BP) ) has shared an update.

On 14 April 2026, BP issued a first-quarter 2026 trading statement outlining preliminary estimates for its performance amid heightened volatility in oil, gas and refined product markets linked to the ongoing Middle East situation. The group expects reported upstream production to be broadly flat versus the fourth quarter of 2025, with slightly higher gas and low carbon output and slightly lower oil production, and forecasts an underlying effective tax rate around 35% as stronger products results lift taxable income.

BP signalled that oil trading results should be exceptional compared with a weak fourth quarter, while gas marketing and trading are set to remain average and refining margins modestly stronger, though price lags and dislocation between marker and realized prices will weigh on realized economics. Capital expenditure is projected to stay broadly flat versus the prior quarter at about $3.5 billion, but net debt is expected to rise to $25–27 billion from $22.2 billion at end-2025, driven by a substantial $4–7 billion working capital build caused largely by the higher price environment, underscoring balance-sheet sensitivity to commodity swings ahead of full results due on 28 April 2026.

The most recent analyst rating on (BP) stock is a Hold with a $54.00 price target. To see the full list of analyst forecasts on BP stock, see the BP Stock Forecast page.

Spark’s Take on BP Stock

According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, BP is a Neutral.

The score is mainly held back by weaker financial performance (near break-even reported earnings and higher leverage despite solid cash flow). Technical trends are supportive with strong momentum and price above key moving averages, while valuation is a drag due to the very high P/E despite an attractive dividend. The latest earnings call was moderately positive on execution, cost reduction and balance-sheet priorities, but impairments and the buyback suspension temper confidence.
