BHP Group Ltd ( (AU:BHP) ) has issued an update.
BHP has appointed Mark Vassella as a Non-executive Director, effective 1 June 2026, adding four decades of global steel industry and materials value-chain experience to its board. Vassella, the former CEO and Managing Director of BlueScope Steel, began his career as a cadet at BHP Newcastle and has held senior roles in Australia, the UK and the US.
He is recognised for expertise in running large-scale industrial operations, building relationships with governments, Indigenous partners, communities and business stakeholders, and for his focus on safety, decarbonisation and disciplined capital allocation. Chair Ross McEwan said Vassella’s appointment strengthens BHP’s leadership in global resource development and community engagement as he joins the board in June 2026.
