Alstom has secured long-term train services and refurbishment contracts worth about £330 million with ScotRail Trains and rolling stock owner Beacon to support the Class 222 fleet in Scotland. The 10-year Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreement, running to 2036 with an option to 2042, covers technical support, spares, and early heavy maintenance for 22 five-car trains, reinforcing Alstom’s role in UK rail operations.
An additional £80 million refurbishment deal with Beacon will deliver extensive interior and exterior upgrades, including new seating, lighting, accessibility improvements, and modern onboard systems such as intelligent stop/start, WiFi, CCTV, passenger information screens and enhanced cybersecurity. The programme, to be delivered across multiple depots, supports ScotRail’s sustainability, inclusivity and modal-shift ambitions while sustaining skilled jobs and strengthening the UK rail supply chain as the network transitions to a more sustainable railway.
