President Trump has posted a new announcement on Truth Social, the social media platform. He wrote:
“Israel never talked me into the war with Iran, the results of Oct. 7th, added to my lifelong opinion that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON, did. I watch and read the FAKE NEWS Pundits and Polls in total disbelief. 90% of what they say are lies and made up stories, and the polls are rigged, much as the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged. Just like the results in Venezuela, which the media doesn’t like talking about, the results in Iran will be amazing – And if Iran’s new leaders (Regime Change!) are smart, Iran can have a great and prosperous future! President DJT”
How Will Trump’s Statement Affect the Stock Market?
This latest post has the potential to affect the stock market. That’s because Trump’s post hardens his anti-Iran, anti-nuclear stance and hints at potential regime change, which could raise perceived geopolitical risk in the Middle East. This could support higher oil risk premiums, benefiting energy names like Chevron, Exxon Mobil, and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund on expectations of tighter or more volatile crude supply.
At the same time, renewed focus on Iran and defense readiness can boost sentiment for U.S. defense contractors, as investors may price in higher odds of future military spending. Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, RTX Corporation and defense-focused ETFs such as the SPDR S&P Aerospace & Defense ETF and iShares U.S. Aerospace & Defense ETF could see inflows on this hawkish rhetoric.
However, markets also recognize that this is campaign messaging, not immediate policy, so reactions may be more muted and short-lived absent concrete actions. Traders will likely fade initial moves unless additional signals from Washington or Tehran suggest real escalation that would materially impact oil flows or defense procurement plans.
Here are some of the stocks that might be affected:
Chevron ((CVX)),
Exxon Mobil Corp. ((XOM)),
Lockheed Martin ((LMT)),
Northrop Grumman Corp. ((NOC)),
Rtx Corporation ((RTX)),
Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ((XLE)),
SPDR S&P Aerospace & Defense ETF ((XAR)),
iShares U.S. Aerospace & Defense ETF ((ITA)).
