Boeing Stock (NYSE:BA) Slips Despite Plans to Push KC-46 Vision System in Dubai

Story Highlights

Boeing brings out new optics for the KC-46 tanker, and gets a little closer to selling its old Chicago headquarters.

Boeing Stock (NYSE:BA) Slips Despite Plans to Push KC-46 Vision System in Dubai

Granted, the news was not great today for aerospace stock Boeing (BA). It landed a big win in Dubai yesterday with Emirates, but it got the rug pulled out from under it with flydubai putting its order in rival Airbus’ (EADSY) hands. But Boeing is not out of the fight yet, as Boeing showed off a new vision system for the KC-46 Pegasus tanker. The move seems to have helped blunt the news of losing flydubai, but Boeing shares were still down fractionally in Tuesday afternoon’s trading.

The new vision system is nearly three years late, reports note, as it was supposed to roll out back in 2023, and it is nearly 2026 now. The project, known as RVS 2.0, has already been delayed several times, and Boeing does not expect a full rollout until 2027. However, Boeing has been offering some minor improvements to RVS 1.0, delivering what some in the Air Force are calling RVS 1.5.

Reports suggest that some of the biggest problems with RVS in its current form are dynamic lighting issues and depth perception. Dynamic lighting helps to protect against camera footage that is either too poorly lit—like at night—or lit entirely too much, like in the daytime, where too much sun can wash out the video. RVS 2.0 looks to address that with upgrades for the long-wave infrared cameras, upgrades for the visible spectrum cameras, and a new set of visible spectrum cameras. That will bring the total lens count in RVS 2.0 up to six.

Selling the Old Headquarters

Boeing used to have its headquarters location in Chicago. When it pulled back to Washington, it left a headquarters building behind it. Some attempts have been made in the past to sell it, but a new potential buyer has stepped in. Hines stepped in to buy after the latest attempt from Sterling Bay buckled.

The Boeing headquarters is pretty substantial, a 36-story building with 776,000 square feet to its credit. There is no word as yet on just how much Hines is looking to offer for the building, although we know that Sterling Bay—who previously tried to buy the building—saw its deal get scuttled. Reports noted that due diligence on the Sterling Bay deal “…did not support advancing a transaction in the current market conditions.”

Is Boeing a Good Stock to Buy Right Now?
