AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) stock was down on Monday as the operator of a space-based cellular broadband network for mobile phones prepares for a launch in April. Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin revealed on its official X account that it will launch an AST SpaceMobile BlueBird 7 satellite no earlier than April 10.

BlueBird 7 is a next-generation satellite from AST SpaceMobile that offers 4G and 5G connectivity to mobile devices. The satellite will join others in the creation of a satellite network that will provide connectivity to unmodified smartphones. This would offer speeds of up to 120 Mbps to users of the satellite network.

Interest in space stocks has grown recently, ahead of the Artemis II mission set to launch later this week. This trip will have NASA astronauts travel around the moon, marking the first lunar mission in more than 50 years. This has also sparked interest in other space companies, such as Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which is considering an initial public offering (IPO).

AST SpaceMobile Stock Movement Today

AST SpaceMobile stock was down 3.13% on Monday but was still up 4.94% year-to-date. The stock has also rallied 245.95% over the past 12 months.

ASTS stock trading activity today was muted at roughly 2.01 million shares, compared to the company’s three-month average daily trading volume of about 12.07 million shares.
