The new feature is being tested as part of visionOS3, a yet-to-be released version of Apple’s mixed reality headset’s operating system. This would be the latest in a series of enhancements for the Vision Pro, and comes as the company tries to boost sales of the headset.
At $3,500 per device, the Vision Pro is one of the more expensive mixed reality headsets in the market today. It competes against Meta Platforms’ (META) Quest headset, which has similar features but sells at less than a third the price of the Apple device.
Cool Features
Apple announced the Vision Pro headset in 2023 and it went on sale in February 2024, marking the company’s first new consumer technology in nearly a decade. The Vision Pro already has several nifty features, including allowing users to select apps using finger pinching.
The new eye scrolling would reportedly take the Vision Pro’s capabilities to the next level and help to both distinguish the headset from its competitors and justify the steep cost to buy one. Apple is testing several new accessibility features on its various electronics, including the ability for humans to use brain computer interfaces to control future iPhones.
A new version of visionOS, along with Apple’s other operating systems, is expected to to be unveiled at the company’s annual developer conference on June 9 of this year. AAPL stock is down 15% in 2025.
