On April 6, Anthropic announced a new agreement with Google (GOOGL) and Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) to expand its computing infrastructure. The deal, likely worth billions of dollars, will see Anthropic gain approximately 3.5 gigawatts (GW) of next-generation Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) capacity for its Claude AI models, marking its largest compute commitment to date.

Anthropic’s use of the extra TPU capacity will depend on its continued commercial growth, Broadcom said in Monday’s SEC filing. Most of the AI firm’s new compute capacity will be located in the United States, supporting its November 2025 plan to invest $50 billion in local computing systems.
The multi-gigawatt capacity is scheduled to go live starting in 2027. Training and running large AI models like Claude require massive computing power, making specialized chips such as TPUs important. Moreover, the deal also extends Anthropic’s existing partnerships with Google Cloud and Broadcom, building on earlier TPU capacity expansions announced in October 2025.
Claude AI Demand Propels Anthropic’s Compute Expansion
Anthropic said its new agreement with Google and Broadcom will scale its Claude AI models to meet rising demand. The company noted that demand has accelerated sharply in 2026, driving its run-rate revenue over $30 billion, up from about $9 billion at the end of 2025.
The number of enterprise customers spending over $1 million annually has also doubled to more than 1,000 in less than two months. To support this growth, Anthropic said it will continue training and running Claude across multiple AI hardware, including Amazon Web Services’ (AMZN) Trainium, and Nvidia’s (NVDA) Graphics Processing Units (GPUs).
The company said this approach will share the workload among the best chips, while improving performance and reliability for customers who use Claude for sensitive tasks. Anthropic further noted that Claude will remain available across all three of the world’s largest cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure (MSFT). Meanwhile, Amazon remains its primary cloud provider and training partner for Project Rainier via AWS.
