Anthropic Expands Into Europe with New Offices and a £270K Data Center Role

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence (AI) firm behind Claude, is ramping up efforts to secure data center capacity across Europe. To support this push, the company is recruiting a senior executive to negotiate compute agreements across the region.

The move comes at a time when U.S. hyperscalers are projected to invest more than $600 billion in AI infrastructure by 2026. If realized, that spending surge could position Anthropic to benefit directly from rising global demand for compute capacity.

Anthropic Scouts New Executive to Lead EU Compute Deals

Anthropic said on April 23 that it is looking to recruit a senior “Transaction Principal” to negotiate European data center capacity deals. The company said that the London-based role will offer an annual salary between £225,000 and £270,000, noting that the position will be “critical” to supporting its next-generation AI systems.

In this role, the new executive will source commercial data center deals, negotiate terms, and work with developers across major markets. These priority locations will include major “FLAP-D hubs” such as Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin, as well as growing regions in the Nordics and Southern Europe.

Meanwhile, sources familiar with the matter said that Anthropic is also considering direct deals with data center developers globally. The company declined to comment further on the executive role or its expansion plans in the EU.

Major Infrastructure Plans Back Anthropic’s EU Push

Anthropic’s hiring effort follows several major infrastructure commitments. Earlier this week, the company confirmed plans to spend more than $100 billion on technology from Amazon Web Services (AWS) over the next decade. It also signed an expanded agreement earlier this month with Broadcom (AVGO) for approximately 3.5 gigawatts of computing capacity.

Furthermore, Anthropic’s move comes amid intensifying competition in Europe. The Nordics, in particular, have become key locations for AI infrastructure in Europe due to cheap energy costs.

Last July, OpenAI launched its first European Stargate data center project in partnership with Nscale Global Holdings and Aker ASA (AKAAF), establishing a $1 billion facility in Norway. Meanwhile, Microsoft (MSFT) recently took over a former Stargate data center in Norway, intensifying competition.

What Is the Best AI Stock to Buy?

Anthropic is still a private company ahead of its potential initial public offering (IPO) in 2026. As a result, investors interested in AI stocks can consider top players such as Nvidia (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM), and Amazon (AMZN). Wall Street analysts tracked in the TipRanks Stocks Comparison Center have rated all of these stocks a Strong Buy, with MSFT carrying the highest upside potential of approximately 36.8%.
