Another Big Recall Does Little Harm to Ford Stock (NYSE:F)

Story Highlights

Yet another recall lands at Ford, and those looking to purchase a Ford electric vehicle with tax credits have just a little more time to do the job.

Another Big Recall Does Little Harm to Ford Stock (NYSE:F)

Some days you have to laugh just to keep from sobbing. And believe me, right now, my sides hurt. Legacy automaker Ford (F) announced another recall, one that will impact over 355,000 trucks. Yet despite this, Ford investors rolled with this latest punch and sent shares up modestly in Wednesday afternoon’s trading.

What went wrong this time, you wonder? This time, the matter is in the instrument panel display. The panel may completely fail any time the engine is started, reports note, and in some cases, may not display some information. This includes everything from fuel levels to navigation information to even speed, a point that most local police will not want to hear about when you go 57 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone.

Most of the impacted vehicles are pickups, and those mostly from 2025. This includes the 2025 F-150, the F-250 SD, the F-350 SD, the F-450 SD and the F-550 SD. The fix will be comparatively simple–a software update. Some may need to return to the dealership for that update, while others will be able to receive an over-the-air update instead.

A Little Extra Room for EV Buyers

Meanwhile, Ford electric vehicle buyers are about to get a little reprieve. While the deadline for electric vehicle tax credits is just over a month away, a new IRS ruling has changed the game, though only slightly.

The IRS noted that the meaning of the word “acquired” in the legal language involved is that delivery does not have to take place before September 30, when the credit expires. Rather, that the contracts are in place before then. So someone walking into their dealership on September 29 to set up the contract and make a down payment, and getting the vehicle October 2, can still get the credit. So car buyers will have just a little more time than they may have thought.
