Analyst Mihir Bhatia of BofA reiterated a Sell rating on SOFI with a price objective of $17, seeing limited risk‑reward despite recent growth. Bhatia, who ranks 1,375 out of 12,160 analysts with a 60.1% success rate and 7.7% average return, argues that balance sheet growth and lack of upgrades to the 2026 outlook are weighing on the shares.

Bhatia notes that first‑quarter results were in line with earnings expectations but below investors’ high hopes, especially after a history of beat‑and‑raise quarters. Revenue upside came mainly from net interest income and loan originations, while the Technology and Loan platform segments lagged forecasts, and higher marketing spending pushed operating expenses up.

On the positive side, he highlights strong lending performance, with total originations reaching $12.1 billion and robust growth in personal, home, and student loans, alongside ongoing member expansion. Still, he is concerned that the technology segment’s $75 million revenue and the outlook for $325 million in 2026 are well below prior expectations, keeping pressure on valuation.

Offering a different view, analyst Kyle Peterson of Needham reiterated a Buy rating with a $25 price target, seeing the core lending business as solid despite what he calls a noisy quarter. Peterson, who ranks 11,204 out of 12,160 with a 38.6% success rate and a -3.5% average return, believes the sell‑off was driven by weaker tech product revenue and loan platform shifts but remains positive on SOFI’s long‑term thesis.
