Amazon Stock (AMZN) Beefs Up as it Takes Business Groceries Fight to Walmart (WMT)

Printer Ink and Pastries

Amazon Business said that thousands of groceries including dairy, baked goods and frozen food was now available to its Business Prime members in over 2,300 cities and towns. That is in addition to less appetizing, but just as important business essentials such as printer ink.

“Businesses of every kind from offices and schools to gyms and salons regularly need fresh food to serve their employees, customers and guests,” Amazon Business said in a statement. “Now, business customers can enjoy an all-in-one ordering experience for their wide-ranging business needs, whether it’s bagels for a client meeting, milk and cream to keep the coffee bar stocked, or fresh fruit for a board meeting.”

Amazon said that orders are delivered within set delivery hours and preferences. At checkout, customers can select delivery windows that align with their business operating hours.

Strong Customer Demand

Amazon said the move had been made following strong customer response to its deliveries of fresh groceries to consumers. It claims to be the second largest grocer in the U.S. with over $150 billion in gross sales.

“We’re continuously innovating to make business buying simpler, faster, and more cost-effective for our customers,” said Shelley Salomon, VP Amazon Business.

Walmart leads the nation in terms of grocery revenues, but the expanded Amazon offering could pose it a stiffer challenge. Instead of popping down to their local Walmart, it might be easier, and in the end more productive, for managers and employees to book a delivery.

According to figures from Capital One Shopping, U.S. grocery sales totaled an estimated $920.3 billion in 2025; annual grocery spending will surpass $1 trillion in 2028. Online grocery delivery revenue totaled $327.7 billion in 2025, up 27.3% year-over-year.
