Anthropic, which is an AI company that is backed by tech giant Amazon (AMZN), has announced that its large language model, Claude, will now have web search capabilities that will allow it to provide more accurate and up-to-date information. With this new feature, Claude can now access real-time insights and provide answers based on the latest information available.
When using the web search feature, Claude will include direct citations in its responses. This allows users to easily fact-check sources and verify the accuracy of the information. Instead of searching for results manually, Claude processes and delivers relevant sources in a conversational format. This will expand Claude’s knowledge base and make it an even more powerful tool for users.
The new web search feature is currently available to paid Claude users in the U.S., but there are plans to expand to free users and other countries soon. This update puts Claude among other AI-powered search engines, such as Google (GOOGL) AI Overviews, Microsoft (MSFT) Bing with Copilot, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search, and Perplexity AI. Interestingly, it is worth noting that following its latest funding round, Anthropic reached a valuation of $61.5 billion and achieved an annualized revenue of $1.4 billion.
