Forget margin or options. Here's how the pros trade AMZNThe drug is used to treat type 2 diabetes and is based on semaglutide, the same active ingredient used in Novo’s weight loss drug Wegovy. Amazon has stocked Wegovy since January, and in April, it also added Eli Lilly’s (LLY) weight-loss pill Foundayo.
Amazon said it will offer same-day delivery for Ozempic in about 3,000 U.S. areas, with plans to reach 4,500 by the end of the year. The company said half of its U.S. clients can get same-day delivery, while all clients can get their meds within four days.
“Amazon Pharmacy continues to provide customers expanded selection and reliable, convenient access to the latest treatments like the Ozempic pill for type 2 diabetes,” said Tanvi Patel, a vice president at Amazon.
Meanwhile, AMZN shares rose slightly on Wednesday, closing at $274.99.
GLP-1 Drugs Become a Key Growth Lane
The move fits Amazon’s push to make health care simpler and more direct for users. Since GLP-1 drugs are in high demand, Amazon can use fast delivery, clear prices, and local kiosks to stand out.
The Ozempic pill will cost $149 per month for cash pay users, while the lowest price with insurance is $25, Amazon said. In addition, the pill can be stocked in kiosks since it does not need to be kept cold, unlike many shot-based GLP-1 drugs.
For Novo, the deal adds another path to reach diabetes patients as the GLP-1 race heats up. For Amazon, it could help turn Pharmacy into a more vital part of its health care business, with repeat users and high-value meds at the center.
