Amazon (AMZN) Moves Fast to Bring OpenAI Tech to AWS after Microsoft Shift

Amazon (AMZN) is moving fast to capitalize on a major shift in the AI landscape. With Microsoft (MSFT) ending its exclusive license deal with OpenAI, Amazon is stepping in and expanding its partnership to bring OpenAI’s advanced models directly into AWS. The companies announced three new offerings, all in limited preview, that integrate OpenAI’s latest models and agent capabilities into Amazon Bedrock.

Here’s What the Deal Includes

For the first time, AWS customers can access OpenAI’s newest frontier models through the same Bedrock APIs, security controls, and governance tools they already use. Enterprises can now run OpenAI models alongside Anthropic, Meta (META), Mistral, Cohere, Amazon, and others in one unified environment. The models come with AWS’ full security stack, making adoption far easier for large AWS customers.

Further, OpenAI’s Codex, used by more than 4 million developers each week, is coming to Bedrock. Enterprises can run Codex directly inside their existing AWS environments through the Bedrock API, the Codex CLI, the desktop app, and the VS Code extension. This allows software teams to automate code generation, refactoring, documentation, and testing, while keeping data inside AWS.

The next big update is Bedrock Managed Agents, which combine OpenAI’s frontier models with AWS’s global infrastructure and security. The service handles everything agents need: memory, identity, permissions, and long‑running execution, in a production‑ready environment.

Why This Move Matters

For Amazon, the timing could not be better. AWS has been making efforts to regain momentum in the AI platform race, leaning on its own custom chips (Trainium, Inferentia, and the new Trainium3) and its partnership with Anthropic. Adding OpenAI to the mix strengthens AWS’s model catalog and helps counter Microsoft’s early lead in enterprise AI adoption.

For OpenAI, the shift is equally important. The company has been under pressure to diversify its cloud footprint and reduce reliance on Microsoft, especially as it expands into government, defense, and regulated industries, areas where AWS has a stronghold and long‑standing contracts.

What Is the AMZN Stock Price Target?

Overall, Wall Street has a Strong Buy consensus rating on Amazon stock based on 40 Buy and two Hold recommendations. The average AMZN stock price target of $289.05 indicates 11.59% upside potential.
