In a settlement with federal labor officials, Amazon vowed not to retaliate against workers who go on strike. The technology giant also agreed to restore unpaid time off that it had docked from employees who walked off the job.

Finally, Amazon agreed to ensure that all Amazon workers can strike in the future without losing their unpaid time off, said the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in a news release. More than 100 Amazon employees will have their unpaid time off restored, according to the National Labor Relations Board settlement.

Amazon’s Labor Woes

Amazon said in its own statement that it didn’t admit any wrongdoing as part of the settlement with the Teamsters. Amazon employees risk being fired if they go on strike or use more unpaid time off than they’re allotted under their employment contract.

The Teamsters, one of the largest labor unions in the U.S., has long sought to organize Amazon warehouse and delivery workers. It created an Amazon division in 2021 to support and fund workers at the company in their unionization efforts, including job actions and strikes.

Amazon workers at seven U.S. delivery hubs walked off the job in December 2024 in a strike organized by the Teamsters. The union says that it currently represents nearly 10,000 Amazon workers, though the company denies this claim.
