Four-Legged Robot

According to a Bloomberg report, BABA’s Amap unit is ready to introduce a quadruped into the market to challenge domestic rivals such as Unitree’s Go series.

The report wasn’t clear on when Alibaba intended to start selling the four-legged robot or its purpose. But if it is anything like the Go model, then they can run, jump and walk like a dog. They are used for security, patrolling gardens and factories or just as a companion on your daily or yearly jog. They cost around $1,600.

Amap’s embodied intelligence research division is also said to be exploring the feasibility of developing humanoid robots. These mimic the look and movements of humans and are powered by AI technology.

This is a market dominated by Chinese manufacturers such as Unitree and Agibot, with Tesla’s (TSLA) Optimus, perhaps a little bit stiffly, flying the Stars and Stripes. Other groups looking to muscle in on the humanoids scene are Xiaomi (XIACF), Texas Instruments (TXN) and Nvidia (NVDA).

The Human League

According to recent data from Omdia, Chinese humanoid robot makers dominated the market in 2025, with five firms in the top 10. Agibot was top of the robot class, shipping 5,168 humanoids last year. That amounts to around 40% of the overall market. Unitree sprinted to second spot with 4,200 humanoids.

“We have already made in-depth investments in the field of embodied intelligence, continuously releasing multiple embodied models, and actively exploring hardware product forms such as quadruped robots and humanoid robots,” an Amap spokesperson said. “We expect to release our first quadruped robot soon.”
