Tesla’s (TSLA) stock has gained about 15% over the past five trading sessions, ahead of the electric vehicle (EV) maker’s Q1 2026 earnings on April 22. That said, shares are still down 11% year-to-date due to concerns about weak deliveries, lack of innovation, intense competition, and lackluster demand in the EV market amid macro uncertainty. Wall Street expects Tesla to report earnings per share (EPS) of $0.36 for Q1 2026, reflecting 33% year-over-year growth. Revenue is projected to rise more than 15% to $22.26 billion from the prior-year quarter.

Wall Street is divided on Tesla stock. While Tesla bulls remain optimistic about its full self-driving (FSD) technology, robotaxis, and other AI ventures, several analysts are concerned about the persistent weakness in the EV business.

Now, according to TipRanks’ Ownership Tool, public companies and individual investors own 38.80% of Tesla. They are followed by insiders, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), mutual funds, and other institutional investors at 24.95%, 23.82%, 12.36%, and 0.07%, respectively.

Digging Deeper into Tesla’s Ownership Structure

Looking closely at the top shareholders, CEO Elon Musk owns the highest stake in Tesla, followed by Vanguard with a 5.93% holding.

Among the top ETF holders, Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) owns a 2.38% stake in TSLA, while Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) holds 1.93%. Also, Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (QQQ) owns 1.02% of Tesla.

Moving to mutual funds, Vanguard Index Funds holds 5.13% of Tesla. Meanwhile, Fidelity Concord Street Trust owns 1.31% of the EV giant.

Is TSLA Stock a Buy, Sell, or Hold?

Heading into Q1 earnings, Wall Street has a Hold consensus rating on Tesla stock based on 13 Buys, 11 Holds, and six Sells. The average TSLA stock price target of $401.13 indicates shares are fully priced at current levels.
