3 Vanguard ETFs Investors Could Buy and Hold Forever

For many investors, the simplest path to long-term wealth is to buy quality ETFs and hold them through market fluctuations. That strategy has made Vanguard ETFs especially popular thanks to their low fees, broad diversification, and strong long-term performance. Using TipRanks’ ETF Comparison Tool, we identified three Vanguard ETFs —Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI), Vanguard Information Technology ETF (VGT), and Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) that could be strong buy-and-hold options for investors.

According to TipRanks’ unique ETF analyst consensus, determined based on a weighted average of analyst ratings on its holdings, VGT is a Strong Buy. Meanwhile, VTI and VOO are Moderate Buys. All three ETFs offer upside potential of more than 15%.

Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO)

The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF is a popular option for investors looking to gain exposure to large U.S. companies. It tracks the S&P 500 Index (SPX), which is widely seen as a key measure of the overall U.S. stock market and the broader economy. The fund has an expense ratio of 0.03%.

In terms of holdings, VOO ETF is heavily weighted toward technology but also includes major exposure to financials, healthcare, consumer, and industrial stocks, giving investors broad, large-cap diversification. VOO holds 507 stocks with total assets worth $957.12 billion. Its top three holdings are Nvidia (NVDA), Apple (AAPL), and Microsoft (MSFT).

Vanguard Information Technology ETF (VGT)

The Vanguard Information Technology ETF (VGT) focuses exclusively on U.S. tech stocks. Its top holdings include NVDA, AAPL, and MSFT — similar to the top positions in VOO. Overall, the ETF holds 320 stocks with total assets of about $136.4 billion.

The fund offers direct exposure to fast-growing areas such as AI, semiconductors, and enterprise software, which continue to benefit from strong spending trends. VGT has a slightly higher expense ratio of 0.09%, compared to the 0.03% expense ratios of both VOO and VTI.

Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI)

The Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) gives investors broad exposure to the entire U.S. stock market. The fund holds companies across large-, mid-, and small-cap stocks, making it a core building block for long-term portfolios. VTI is considered a safe option for long-term investors because it holds thousands of U.S. stocks, spreading risk across the entire market. The fund has an expense ratio of 0.03%.

Currently, VTI holds 3,473 stocks with total assets worth $641.16 billion. Its top three holdings are also NVDA, AAPL, and MSFT.
