Penny stocks refer to low-priced shares, typically under $5 apiece, and are usually issued by companies whose market capitalizations hover around $300 million.

The three stocks highlighted in this article were selected for having the largest dollar volumes at the close on Wednesday, May 13. This means that they had the highest overall dollar value of shares traded, calculated by multiplying the number of shares exchanged by the stock’s market price.

  • Dreamland Limited (TDIC): This is a Hong Kong-based event management company that organizes, promotes, and manages themed tours. It also arranges walk-through experience events for entertainment companies such as animation houses and live-action film studios. On May 13, TDIC shares ballooned by approximately 877% to $23.05 per share, returning a dollar trading volume of $2.52 billion. This rally follows Dreamland’s announcement that its subsidiary Trendic International Limited has entered a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Hong Kong-based LinkFung Innovation to develop an AI-powered intelligent image library platform.
  • Quantum Cyber (QUCY): Quantum is an autonomous defense and cybersecurity company that uses AI and quantum computing to enhance its platform. The company rebranded this year from a human feces analysis company called Mainz Biomed N.V. to focus on defense applications. On May 13, QUCY hit a dollar volume of $717.35 million after its shares jumped by over 316% to $1.34 per share. This followed the company’s intellectual property license agreement with BP United, an autonomous unmanned vehicle systems company.
  • WORK Medical Technology Group (WOK): This is a Chinese medical consumables company that produces and sells various short-term or single-use disposable devices and items, including oxygen face masks, tourniquets, disposable breathing circuits, and laryngeal mask airways. On May 13, WORK closed the day with the third-largest trading volume of $563.55 million despite its shares plunging by about 59% to $2.76 per share. Before the drop, the company’s shares surged on WORK’s partnership with Novabioplus, a reagent product maker, to develop next-generation intelligent medical models.
