Why Lucid (LCID) Got Hit with a Discrimination Lawsuit

Former Lucid Motors (LCID) Chief Engineer Eric Bach is suing the EV company after claiming that he was wrongfully fired and targeted because of his German heritage. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Northern California, says that a senior HR executive at Lucid referred to him as a “German Nazi.” Bach says that soon after an HR investigation into workplace culture began in early 2025, he was removed from overseeing the powertrain division and argues that the investigation unfairly singled him out due to discrimination.

In addition, Bach says that he did not learn about the offensive comment until mid‑2025, which was months after he had already lost responsibilities at the company. As a result, he encouraged a colleague to report the remark and later filed his own complaint against another VP for similar behavior. According to the lawsuit, Lucid confirmed that the HR executive made the racist comment. However, Bach claims that instead of addressing the incident properly, the company retaliated by trying to push him to resign. When he refused, Lucid fired him on November 5, 2025.

The lawsuit comes at a difficult time for Lucid, which is burning cash while trying to scale production of its Gravity SUV and develop lower‑cost vehicles for 2026. The company has also seen a wave of executive departures. For instance, the VP of Engineering left the same day Bach says he was fired, and former CEO Peter Rawlinson suddenly resigned in February. Interestingly, Bach claims that he was on track for a promotion, with some leaders even suggesting he could one day become CTO or CEO.
