President Trump has filed a $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times, alleging that it engaged in defamation and libel while acting as a “mouthpiece” for the Democratic Party. The lawsuit amount is well above the $9.4 billion market capitalization of the publication’s parent company, The New York Times Company (NYT).

“The New York Times has been allowed to freely lie, smear, and defame me for far too long, and that stops, NOW!” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
Trump Escalates Legal Battle for Defamation and Libel
Trump also characterized the Times as one of the “most degenerate newspapers in the History of our Country.” The 85-page lawsuit, filed in Florida, also alleges defamation against Penguin Random House and four individual Times reporters, two of whom had previously written a book about Trump for the publisher.
In response, the Times said that the lawsuit lacks merit and is an attempt to undermine independent reporting.
