OIL TANKERS FROM VENEZUELA: President Donald Trump ordered a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela, escalating pressure on Nicolas Maduro’s government by targeting its primary revenue source, Reuters’ Idrees Ali, Phil Stewart, Shariq Khan, and Marianna Parraga report. Details of enforcement remain unclear, though the administration has surged troops and naval assets, including an aircraft carrier, to the region. FED CHAIR: U.S. President Donald Trump is slated to interview Federal Reserve governor Christopher Waller for the position of Fed chair on Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal’s Brian Schwartz and Nick Timiraos report, citing people familiar with the matter. Officials have cautioned that the interview process is moving quickly and that meetings can always be delayed or canceled as Trump continues to weigh his options, the authors note. Last week, the president interview former Fed governor Kevin Warsh and National Economic Council director Kevin Hassett for the role, saying at the time that Warsh was at the top of his list, the authors say. Waller was named to the Fed’s board by Trump and confirmed by the Senate at the end of Trump’s first term in 2020, the authors note.
