Target (TGT) is testing new fulfillment models to improve online-order efficiency, cut shipping costs, speed up delivery, and enhance the in-store shopping experience, The Wall Street Journal’s Liz Young reports. Among other methods, the retailer is shifting some online order fulfillment to less-busy stores, Young writes. Gretchen McCarthy, the company’s chief supply chain and logistics officer, said the goal is to offer customers a variety of ways to get their orders. “I’ll speak for myself, I use different methods of fulfillment based on what I need,” McCarthy said in an interview. “We believe there’s a use case for same-day delivery, there’s a use case for drive-up, there’s a use case for ship-to-home brown box, and, of course, the bread and butter of our business, there is a use case for people coming into our stores.”
